About the Writer
The writer lives in a regional town with a population of approximately 30 thousand people in the state of Queensland in Australia. Living on a small acreage has introduced me to ideas about rural style living and encouraged me to think about sustainability on a small homestead.
As a zombie fan it would seem inevitable that a mixture of my enjoyment of freeform writing and zombie culture would find an outlet in writing about zombies.
I could in some circles be referred to as an educated person holding bachelors degrees in Law and in Science and post graduate diplomas in law. Formerly being a full time lawyer also influenced my writing and communication skills.
Yet I wasn't always a lawyer as I came to the profession later in life than the average graduate. Before that I drove trucks, dug ditches and was even a seamstress of sorts. Yet I always liked to write but often got bored with trying to write larger stories and articles. Thus the idea of the website came to me.
In my past can also be found my experience as a member of the State Emergency Service (SES). I spent almost a decade as a volunteer member doing such things as Land Search, Search and Rescue, water rescue and search and flood relief. Lots of times it was clean up and temporary repair and protection of buildings after storms had ravaged an area.
I learnt during my time with the SES the majority of people are not prepared and have never even considered what would happen should there be a natural disaster. Just the simple things people are not prepared for such as losing power in a storm amazed me. The SES motto was "Be Aware" and I subscribed to this idea with gusto.
Moving from the city to the regional areas I was introduced to a new challenge, bush fire (wild fire). My homestead as I like to call it backs onto a forest and is in a fire danger area. As such I joined the local fire brigade to be able to protect my home, be a part of the community and also learn some new skills and importantly learn about bush fires.
Another little event I encountered when I first moved into the region was flood. Here in Australia it is truly a place of flood and fire. If it isn't under water its likely to burn. I had lived in the regional a few months and I managed to drive into a flooded section of road and kill my car. Even I with all my experience had something to learn even if it was "don't be an idiot".
With my love of zombies and its growth as a pop culture phenomenon I saw the zombie as a fun way to talk about disaster and emergency preparedness.
Add to this my interest in post apocalyptic fiction and history. The Black Death (bubonic and pneumonic plagues) had a large impact on societies at the time and it has been argued this led to major societal changes such the development of labour forces as holders of political power. The Zombie Apocalypse is a way of thinking about what sort of social upheavals would occur in a reboot situation such as massive depopulation and the fall of the established governments.
This is what we propose to talk about here. If you are seeking "Survivalist" or "Prepper" information then we suggest there are other sites more catered to such interests.
